How do you make homemade frosting?

Okay ive done it before but i cant remember exactly what i used, all i know is that the frosting was tasty! I know its simple but i just need to know how! Do any of you know how to make vanilla frosting, or maybe chocolate, as long as its homemade. Thanks!! :) future baker here!!
