My Beta fish eats his food then spits it back out...??? is this okay?

Ive had my fish since valentines day and today i was watching him eat and he puts the food in his maouth and a few secs later he spits it back out, idk if this is new but hes acting normal so hes prob not sick... I feed him fish flakes like the lady at the pet shop gave me. Any advise helps thanks!
