While applying lotion to my flaking tattoo I lost some skin, will I loose a lot of color?

I got my tattoo about 4 days ago. It is on my middle lower back. Today it just started flaking. I have been using the lotion that the tattoo shop told me to use( Nutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream) and everything has been fine. Now I know and have been reading that you shouldn't pull off scabs or skin flakes because you can pull the color out. Now today I was applying my lotion and a piece of skin came away while I was rubbing in the lotion and it had a lot of color on it. The area that I took the piece of skin away from, will I loose the color there? Well maybe I should ask, Do I have a greater chance of losing the color in that area? While I am flaking is there a better way to apply the lotion? Or should I just hope for the best?
